Automatic direct admission to the Kelley School of Business

So, what does it take to earn automatic direct admission to Kelley? A few things, including meeting GPA and test score criteria and applying to IU by November 1 with a business major selected. Follow the three steps in the checklist below to understand automatic direct admission requirements.

If you meet the automatic direct admission criteria, you will be notified in your IU Bloomington admission letter. If your admissions letter lists your major as “Pre-Business,” this means you did not meet the criteria for automatic direct admission. It’s OK—you still have options! Submit a review request by February 1 to be considered for direct admission.

Checklist for automatic direct admission

Step 1: Apply to IU by November 1

Apply to Indiana University Bloomington, beginning August 1, the fall of your senior year of high school. November 1 is the early action, nonbinding deadline. Nonbinding means that even if you’re accepted, you’re not required to enroll at IU Bloomington.

Select one of our Kelley undergraduate business majors as your intended major on your IU Bloomington application. This selection isn't permanent—you will likely change your major as you move through the Kelley curriculum. For Common App applicants, you can choose one of 13 Kelley majors listed with "BSB" (Bachelor of Science in Business). This includes “Business Exploratory BSB,” which enables you to explore all Kelley majors.

Step 2: Meet GPA and test score criteria

There are two key academic requirements that you must meet for direct admission. You must have:

Earned the required test score:
- a composite ACT score of at least 30, or
- an SAT score of at least 1370 (Evidence-Based Reading & Writing and Math)*
Earned a cumulative GPA of 3.8 on a 4.0 scale from a single high school. We will use the highest GPA that is sent to IU Admissions from your official high school transcript. If your high school calculates and provides a weighted GPA, the weighted GPA will be used to determine eligibility for direct admission.

If your record does not meet the criteria above or you wish to apply under test-optional guidelines, you will need to request review through our website to be considered for Kelley direct admission.

* IU superscores, which means that if you choose to have test scores considered as part of your application review, they will consider your best test scores. For the SAT, we’ll consider the highest Math and Evidence-Based Reading and Writing. For the ACT, we’ll combine the highest scores for each subtest from different exams for a new ACT Composite.

Step 3: Receive your admission decision and reserve your spot

If you submitted all your application materials by November 1 and meet the admissions criteria, you will receive an offer of Kelley direct admission in your IU admission letter.

Once you've received an offer and decided to join Kelley, pay your $100 enrollment deposit—now you’re officially a Kelley. Congratulations!
