Kelley MBA students bring perspectives from a broad range of backgrounds and experiences, continually enriching our community and learning environment.
Diversity drives excellence, creates community
We work hard to create a community where you can be yourself and make friends, not just an impressive business network. Explore our programs, clubs, and organizations to see how you can connect with your classmates professionally and for fun.
Before your MBA: What's the Kelley MBA program really like?
We encourage you to talk with current students and staff and to visit, if possible, so you can experience the community and culture that’s unique to the Kelley MBA. If you're not familiar with Bloomington or the Midwest, this is a great way to see what you—and your family and/or pets—can expect living here. Ways to connect:
- Virtual recruiting events: Our admissions team and alumni participate in virtual events for Inside the MBA and other organizations and we’d love to talk with you.Check out the schedule and register if you haven’t already.
- Current students: Our Hoosier Hosts can answer your questions and share their experiences as Kelley MBAs. You also might find it helpful to talk with students who are military veterans or liaisons for the Consortium and Management Leaders for Tomorrow.
- Coffee Chats, Virtual Roundtable Discussions and Counseling Sessions: Learn more about the program by joining a small group discussion or scheduling a one-on-one appointment with a member of the admissions team. See how.
- Kelley MBA Preview Day and its Diversity Workshop: Preview Day, typically in October, provides prospective students with an inside view of our nationally ranked program and enables you to picture the opportunities possible with our MBA. At the Diversity Workshop, you’ll learn about the Kelley School’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and we’ll discuss key elements of the application process. If you attend one or both activities, you’ll talk with current students in addition to MBA faculty and staff.
Learning about diversity, equity, and inclusion as a Kelley MBA
You’ll begin learning and talking about the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion before classes even begin. Foundational concepts are introduced in your Me, Inc. orientation and complement the personal leadership and values-driven career development material in this signature program.
You’ll learn more during your two years with us through:
- assigned readings during your integrated core courses to provide historical context for the need for DEI progress in the business world
- case studies about women- and minority-owned businesses
- guest lectures from external DEI subject matter experts
- discussions about systemic and implicit biases, and also developments in corporate social responsibility
- presentations by corporate leaders about DEI initiatives at their organizations
Community and support on campus
Outside the walls of the Kelley School, you will find active cultural centers, programs, and initiatives designed to support and advocate for diverse students. Explore these organizations to find engaging and educational activities and to meet peers and staff who are committed to your success at IU Bloomington.
Some of our students also get involved in IU Bloomington student government.
