Gibbons/Mitchell Scholarship
Award Description:
The Gibbons/Mitchell Scholarship is a $5000 award given annually to a finance major in the Kelley School of Business who has a career interest related to investments and has demonstrated outstanding academic performance. Preference is given to a female. Dr. Helen Gibbons is a former faculty member in the School of Business and the late Mary Mitchell was her aunt. Miss Mitchell decided on the scholarship in Business for a finance student because of her success as a self-taught investor. She did not have a college education but attended a business school in New Castle, Pennsylvania. She began by buying stocks for workers at the Pennsylvania Railroad where she worked – penny-stocks and other similar investments.
