As businesses face perpetual volatility, increasing competition, rising customer expectations, and digital disruption, savvy companies are developing business operations that are broad, cohesive, nimble, reliable, resilient and that draw on end-to-end global strategy.
According to a Gartner report, business operations consulting (BOC) refers to re-engineering, improvement, optimization, and standardization of processes so that they are aligned with the business strategy. BOC helps companies:
- define the scope, configuration and details of the process, and optimize performance attributes;
- support integrated business planning; and
- help operations execution and fulfillment.
The BOC Workshop, overseen by Carl Briggs and Katie Votolato, involves both client and consulting companies who provide real-world context to challenges and issues facing both sides of the industry across two courses: one sophomore-level course and one junior-level course. Participants of the BOC workshop take the following courses:
BUS-P 254 – Introduction to Business Operations Consulting (1.5 credits)
BUS-P 354 – Business Operations Consulting: Essentials for Success (1.5 credits)
The workshop has close ties with many organizations involved in operations consulting such as Deloitte, EY, and PwC. Students get face-to-face interactions with recruiters and senior leaders from these companies.
