Cybersecurity concentration

The Cybersecurity concentration is a good fit for MSIS students who want to build on existing strengths and knowledge in technology infrastructure and architecture, and IT governance, risk, and compliance (IT GRC).

Build cybersecurity knowledge and skills that will enable you to lead initiatives in this critical business area

After you complete the MSIS Core, you’ll add depth and breadth to your information systems master’s degree with the Cybersecurity concentration. This concentration imparts in-demand skills that are highly sought after in a dynamic job market.

The Cybersecurity track provides you with the expertise to protect the enterprise and its technology assets, manage risks, and ensure organizational security in an increasingly digital world. You’ll learn to navigate the complexities of modern cybersecurity challenges, from safeguarding sensitive data to developing strategies for threat detection and incident response. With a focus on real-world scenarios, this track prepares you to lead in protecting organizations from cyber threats and ensuring resilience in today’s evolving technological landscape.

There are two areas of specialization within the cybersecurity concentration: Cybersecurity and Risk Analytics (CRA) and Digital Process Assurance (DPA). You will choose one of these options. 

Cybersecurity and Risk Analytics

 

This specialization is a great option if you are interested in job opportunities in areas such as governance, risk management, or compliance. You’ll be prepared to pursue roles such as cybersecurity analyst, security consultant, incident responder, security engineer, threat intelligence analyst, or ethical hacker. 

Coursework focuses on: 

  • Organizational information systems security
  • Cybersecurity law and policy
  • Enterprise cybersecurity technologies
  • Business data mining

Digital Process Assurance

 

This specialization is excellent preparation for roles in digital assurance and transparency, digital operations quality assurance, and systems and process assurance.

Coursework focuses on:

  • Enterprise digital core
  • Organizational information systems security
  • Cybersecurity law and policy
  • Cybersecurity analytics

Career opportunities in cybersecurity

Companies are seeking students from cybersecurity graduate programs to take on a variety of new roles within organizations. Potential roles for MSIS graduates include:
