Finance is a critical function of business. Kelley finance majors have many exciting and challenging career opportunities in four general areas:
- Corporate Finance—as the finance “arm” of business, corporate finance involves forecasting financial statements, evaluating possible mergers and acquisitions, setting work capital policies, and hedging financial and business risks.
- Investments—trading and managing stocks, bonds, derivatives, and other securities; this includes advising clients on appropriate investments and creating long-term financial plans, managing the money of mutual funds, and forecasting future earnings of various companies.
- Banking—working for a bank or other intermediary, such as an insurance company; this could include credit analysis, analyzing prospective clients’ financial conditions, or developing new business and interacting with customers.
- International Finance—working in finance outside of the United States or in a multinational corporation; this involves analyzing projects with cash flows in multiple currencies, managing global investment opportunities, and structuring banking deals for multinational corporations.
