    Application requirements

Applicants to the Kelley MS in Finance program will submit transcripts from their undergraduate institution, a resume, a personal statement, two letters of recommendation, and in some cases, a score from either the GMAT or GRE standardized test. Applicants from non-US institutions must also submit scores from the TOEFL or IELTS exam. After the Admissions Committee reviews these materials, they will invite competitive applicants to interview with us, either in person or remotely.

    We encourage you to apply

We are looking for candidates who have excelled academically, especially those who have shown an aptitude for quantitative work either on their undergraduate transcript or on a standardized test score. Candidates from any undergraduate major are welcome. Prior work experience in business is a plus but is not required.

    Application process

For admissions, applicants will complete a two-phase application process, with Phase 1 taking only five minutes to complete. After submitting, applicants will receive an email with a link to the second phase of the application.

How we evaluate candidates for admission

    We’ll consider your:

    • Academic record
A grade point average of 3.2 and above is expected. The average application GPA for the 2024 entering class was 3.6 on a 4.0 scale. Unofficial transcripts are accepted for initial review. Upload unofficial copies of all college or university transcripts to the Additional Uploads section of the IU Online Graduate and Professional Admissions Application. Official transcripts may be required during the application review upon request by the Admissions Committee. Those who are admitted and accept their offer will be required to submit official transcripts.
    • Resume
You’re more than test scores and GPA. We’ll look at your extracurricular activities, work history, volunteer projects, and military experience.
    • Personal statement
Share your career plans and how you think the MS in Finance program will help realize your goals—and demonstrate your written communication skills. The statement should be concise—about 500 words.
    • Letters of recommendation
All applicants must submit two letters of recommendation. We prefer that letters come from your undergraduate professors or people who have been your direct supervisors in a professional setting.
    • GMAT/GRE scores
      • Official codes: GMAT, 8ZG-41-82; GRE, 001324
      • A GRE or GMAT score is required unless waived by the admissions committee. If you're interested in being considered for a GRE/GMAT waiver, please email ksbgrad@iu.edu to notify the admissions team of your interest. The committee will follow up with you regarding your request. Your transcripts and resume will be required for a GRE/GMAT waiver review.
      • Please note that no GMAT/GRE scores are required for current Kelley students on the IU Bloomington campus.
    • TOEFL Score or IELTS Score
All applicants from non-US institutions must take the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or IELTS (International English Language Testing System). Please have your official scores sent to Indiana University Bloomington. Our TOEFL code is 001324.
      • Minimum scores required:
        • TOEFL: 620 or above, 105 on iBT, 260 or better on machine-scored test
        • IELTS: 7.5 or above
    • Interviews
Competitive applicants near Bloomington, Indiana, may be invited to campus for interviews. Applicants outside of the area will be interviewed in-person, via Zoom, or over the phone.
