    Description of the video:

    WEBVTT 1 00:00:01.980 --> 00:00:03.970 - I work for Crowe Horwath. 2 00:00:03.970 --> 00:00:06.040 We are one of the 10 largest accounting, 3 00:00:06.040 --> 00:00:07.980 consulting and technology firms. 4 00:00:07.980 --> 00:00:10.430 I serve as our chief strategy 5 00:00:10.430 --> 00:00:12.590 and innovation officer for the firm. 6 00:00:12.590 --> 00:00:14.450 I manage our innovation process, 7 00:00:14.450 --> 00:00:15.980 and then also business transformation, 8 00:00:15.980 --> 00:00:17.863 so how can we take our existing businesses, 9 00:00:17.863 --> 00:00:19.970 keep them relevant, transform them 10 00:00:19.970 --> 00:00:22.100 into what they need to be in the future, 11 00:00:22.100 --> 00:00:24.490 just to really give our clients an exceptional experience. 12 00:00:24.490 --> 00:00:28.470 The Kelley School and the 3/2 Program, in particular, 13 00:00:28.470 --> 00:00:30.900 can be very transformative for someone. 14 00:00:30.900 --> 00:00:32.530 Speaking very personally, 15 00:00:32.530 --> 00:00:35.130 even though many of the things I learned technically 16 00:00:35.130 --> 00:00:36.780 are no longer even relevant, 17 00:00:36.780 --> 00:00:39.170 what I think that the program really did for me 18 00:00:39.170 --> 00:00:42.560 was it gave me confidence. 19 00:00:42.560 --> 00:00:44.160 It taught me how to learn. 20 00:00:44.160 --> 00:00:46.630 It taught me to be curious. 21 00:00:46.630 --> 00:00:50.010 It exposed me to the business world, 22 00:00:50.010 --> 00:00:52.790 to other senior executives, 23 00:00:52.790 --> 00:00:55.080 put me in lots of situations that I maybe 24 00:00:55.080 --> 00:00:57.330 would not have been as comfortable in otherwise, 25 00:00:57.330 --> 00:00:59.080 had I not been through the program. 26 00:00:59.080 --> 00:01:01.920 That allowed me to have a degree of confidence 27 00:01:01.920 --> 00:01:05.320 going into the earliest part of my career professionally. 28 00:01:05.320 --> 00:01:08.140 I think if a student is on the fence about the 3/2 Program, 29 00:01:08.140 --> 00:01:10.690 they need to dig down within themselves 30 00:01:10.690 --> 00:01:14.636 and think about what they're really looking for 31 00:01:14.636 --> 00:01:16.150 over the long term. 32 00:01:16.150 --> 00:01:18.160 Do they want a job? 33 00:01:18.160 --> 00:01:19.630 Or do they want a career? 34 00:01:19.630 --> 00:01:21.640 And it's not that you can't have a career 35 00:01:21.640 --> 00:01:24.330 going through the undergraduate program, 36 00:01:24.330 --> 00:01:26.440 you have lots of different opportunities ahead of you, 37 00:01:26.440 --> 00:01:28.560 et cetera, where else can you effectively 38 00:01:28.560 --> 00:01:31.311 get a two-year degree with one additional year, 39 00:01:31.311 --> 00:01:34.300 at that caliber of a level of education, 40 00:01:34.300 --> 00:01:35.910 and the opportunities that come from that. 41 00:01:35.910 --> 00:01:38.200 I'm just not sure where else you could possibly get that, 42 00:01:38.200 --> 00:01:39.950 and have that opportunity right in front of you. 43 00:01:39.950 --> 00:01:43.140 So if you want a whole additional set of opportunities 44 00:01:43.140 --> 00:01:45.240 that may open up for you over the long term, 45 00:01:45.240 --> 00:01:47.630 I just can't see how you would pass up the 3/2.

    Trevor Gregory’s career as a CPA

    Before launching his career as a CPA, Trevor Gregory set an ambitious goal: to land a job at a Big Four firm. His experience in the MSA (now MSADA) program—collaborating, networking and learning from mentors—enabled him not only to reach that goal but to become a leader and mentor to others.

    Description of the video:

    WEBVTT 1 00:00:02.280 --> 00:00:04.564 - Coming into the Kelley MSA program, 2 00:00:04.564 --> 00:00:06.990 my two main objectives were to land a job 3 00:00:06.990 --> 00:00:08.650 with a big-four accounting firm 4 00:00:08.650 --> 00:00:12.620 and also to pass the CPA exams before I started work. 5 00:00:12.620 --> 00:00:14.670 And as soon as you step on campus, 6 00:00:14.670 --> 00:00:16.270 Kelley sets you up for success. 7 00:00:16.270 --> 00:00:18.100 So within a few days of starting school, 8 00:00:18.100 --> 00:00:20.500 I was already in front of big-four accounting firms 9 00:00:20.500 --> 00:00:22.330 and met the person that eventually interviewed 10 00:00:22.330 --> 00:00:23.890 and offered me my job. 11 00:00:23.890 --> 00:00:26.740 And I'm happy to say that I landed a job with PWC, 12 00:00:26.740 --> 00:00:28.700 which is one of the biggest accounting firms in the world, 13 00:00:28.700 --> 00:00:33.130 and also passed my CPA exams before even starting my career. 14 00:00:33.130 --> 00:00:36.050 I feel like I have a higher career trajectory. 15 00:00:36.050 --> 00:00:38.160 I know that every couple years, 16 00:00:38.160 --> 00:00:41.100 I'm gonna be promoted, assuming good performance. 17 00:00:41.100 --> 00:00:43.770 So I compare that to some of the individuals 18 00:00:43.770 --> 00:00:46.640 that didn't get an MSA degree or didn't go to Kelley, 19 00:00:46.640 --> 00:00:48.530 and I see some of those individuals 20 00:00:48.530 --> 00:00:51.680 staying in the same position for three to four years. 21 00:00:51.680 --> 00:00:53.620 I think it's a case-by-case basis, 22 00:00:53.620 --> 00:00:56.060 but I know that getting a degree from Kelley 23 00:00:56.060 --> 00:00:58.350 has definitely helped me in terms of career trajectory 24 00:00:58.350 --> 00:01:00.310 and where I'm at now. 25 00:01:00.310 --> 00:01:02.200 While on campus at Kelley, 26 00:01:02.200 --> 00:01:05.420 we were always put into team environments. 27 00:01:05.420 --> 00:01:09.690 So that forced you to become a leader or a follower. 28 00:01:09.690 --> 00:01:11.400 And some of those projects, I think, 29 00:01:11.400 --> 00:01:13.930 are directly attributable to why I think I have 30 00:01:13.930 --> 00:01:16.910 some of the leadership abilities that I do now. 31 00:01:16.910 --> 00:01:19.770 We were always doing real-world cases. 32 00:01:19.770 --> 00:01:22.310 And I think that those scenarios that we were put in 33 00:01:22.310 --> 00:01:24.790 are very attributable to my success. 34 00:01:24.790 --> 00:01:27.340 So as I look back to where I was six years ago, 35 00:01:27.340 --> 00:01:29.620 applying to grad school and trying to say, 36 00:01:29.620 --> 00:01:33.670 should I start my career or go to the MSA program, 37 00:01:33.670 --> 00:01:35.910 I know I made the right choice. 38 00:01:35.910 --> 00:01:38.410 I'm in a promotion geared to be a manager 39 00:01:38.410 --> 00:01:40.510 at one of the biggest accounting firms in the world. 40 00:01:40.510 --> 00:01:43.615 And I know that the MSA program has helped me get here. 41 00:01:43.615 --> 00:01:46.032 (calm music)
