Description of the video:
Louis Jordan, MBA’80: My name is Louis Jordan. I'm a Kelley alum from 1980. My degree is in finance. I have spent the last 30 plus years working in various business environments. Some of the more prominent ones being the CFO for Nike’s global retail business and the head of global finance at Starbucks being my most recent role. There was an immediate interest on the part of faculty members that I came into contact with to find out who I was and kind of what I was interested in and what made me tick. You honestly don't know how important those things are when you're going through it. When you look back on it, years later you can actually say that as a result of that experience, I was able to gain confidence. I was able to actually interact with the business professionals that were visiting the campus on an ongoing basis. What were the skills both that I think I had some semblance of when I came here but got more fully developed as I came here and it was curiosity, competence, confidence, competitiveness, and compassion. The compassion aspect I look at as giving back and that giving back was also something that was that was at the core of my experience in many different ways here. I also had an early encounter with an IU Consortium grad and Kelley grad Bill Mays. One of his goals he said early on was was to pay back his tuition and I I thought that was great idea. I wanted to help others to get the same experience that I had. I thought my experience was that special and that singular. To be honest I can't think of any place that I would recommend more highly to kind of begin that journey. As we go through a career, certainly part of it is creating personal wealth and personal favorable outcomes, but the other thing that makes it really live beyond your experience is to help share that with other people who can help share it with other people and so on.
