Innovations

At Kelley, we are committed to continuously innovating to provide the best possible experience for our students. Our digital technologies team collaborates with every unit within Kelley to ensure that we remain at the forefront in our classrooms, online, and within the school's operations. Below are some of the projects we are currently working on to keep the Kelley School of Business and our students ahead of the curve.

Narrative-Driven Learning Videos

Integrating faculty, learning designers, and media producers into a collaborative team to create narrative-driven course videos that are engaging and effective.

Project Summary
Passive, lecture centered learning is the least effective approach to learning. Those same poor practices often get carried into videos for online courses. Rather than accepting this approach, we focus on challenging faculty to develop narrative-driven learning videos that use a story to convey important concepts in a way that is more memorable, understandable, and enjoyable to watch. Collaboration between faculty, learning designers, and media producers make it possible.

The Kelley Learning Technologies team put out a call to all Kelley Direct faculty members to invite them to submit ideas for a narrative-driven video for their online MBA courses. The high level of response reflected the enthusiasm instructors had for the idea. The video below is the first in a series of storytelling course videos that the Kelley Media team and Instructional Design team are working on with faculty.

The two videos below are from one of the projects which features Susan Batchelder, Management and Entrepreneurship, introducing the concept of path dependency. The second video is a behind-the-scenes look at how the video was produced.

Project Team:

  • Sarah Smith-Robbins, Director of Learning Technologies
  • Susan Batchelder, Clinical Assistant Professor in Management and Entrepreneurship
  • Zach Watt, Kelley learning Media Production Manager
  • Natalie Ebertz, Kelley learning Media Post-Production Manager
  • Tony Kort, Kelley Instructional Technologist

Kelley GPT

AI-Driven Co-Intelligence Model for Business Education

Project Summary:
Kelley GPT is a pioneering AI-driven co-intelligence platform that redefines the role of generative AI in business education. Unlike third-party AI services, Kelley GPT is fully developed, hosted, and operated in-house, ensuring complete data privacy and security while leveraging the expertise of Kelley faculty to enhance accuracy and relevance of the LLM. This unique approach integrates AI with localized institutional knowledge, providing tailored support for student learning, faculty research, and administrative efficiency.

What sets Kelley GPT apart is its co-intelligence model. The LLM doesn’t just generate content; it collaborates with faculty expertise to refine, contextualize, and enhance responses. The modular, open-source architecture allows seamless updates and scalability, ensuring long-term adaptability without vendor lock-in. The fixed-cost model also eliminates variable usage fees, making it a cost-efficient alternative for higher education.

By maintaining full institutional control, reducing costs, and integrating AI with faculty-driven expertise, Kelley GPT establishes a sustainable, scalable, and innovative AI framework for higher education. Its applications span personalized tutoring, research assistance, curriculum development, and operational automation, piloting a transformative model for Gen AI in academia.
