Whatcha Watchin': Baseball movies
By Hannah Carroll (Office of Marketing and Communications)
My 8-year-old daughter recently watched The Sandlot for the first time. It’s a beloved classic for geriatric millennials, but it’s problematic—put me in a parenting pickle, if you will. Viewing The Sandlot required conversations about namecalling (don’t do it), swearing (really don’t do it), and why a kid would shout, “You play ball like a girl!” as an insult.
That last one confused my daughter. “But girls are good at baseball,” she said. “What about Dottie and Kit?” Uh, yes—correct! Is there a more perfect movie than A League of Their Own? If you, too, love the 1992 movie based on the All-American Girls Baseball League, you can watch it under the stars at Switchyard Park this Friday, July 15, at 9:45 p.m.!
