BUS-X 610 Statistics for Research I

  • 15 weeks
  • 3 credits
  • Prerequisite(s): None

This is an introductory course in data analysis and inferential statistics for business-related research. This course provides an in-depth introduction to the general linear model (GLM), with a particular focus on linear regression and analysis of variance (ANOVA). The GLM underlies many more advanced statistics beyond linear regression and ANOVA that are commonly used in behavioral sciences research, such as factor analysis, structural equation modeling, and multilevel modeling. Thus, this course will lay the foundation for much of your later statistics training.

There will be an emphasis in this course on conceptual understanding and application of statistics. In addition to learning conceptual issues, this course involves several assignments that will give you hands-on experience and will facilitate your learning of statistical software packages. You will discover that statistics provide new ways of thinking about questions and effective tools for answering them. Because this is a high-density course, it will be necessary to spend a considerable amount of time in efficient study.
