BUS-P 354 Business Operations Consulting: Essentials for Success

  • 8 weeks
  • 1.5 credits
  • Prerequisite(s): Admission to the Business Operations Consulting Workshop

This is the second of two courses that comprise the academics of the Business Operations Consulting Workshop. This course engages students in discussions with consulting industry guests and peers to discuss topics relevant to business operations and consulting. Some topics that will be discussed include the landscape of the consulting industry, structure of various consulting firms, culture and fit for different firms, and realities of careers as a consultant. Our primary learning objectives are to better understand the lifecycle of a business operations consulting engagement, selling and proposing business operations consulting services, and the ethical dilemmas one encounters in business operations consulting. Frameworks and tools will be introduced to enable students to better approach consulting problems they will encounter and to prepare students for careers in business operations consulting. Additionally, the course aims to support students while they determine their chosen career path through many professional development and career planning activities. An application and interviewing process is required to gain admittance to the workshop and this course.
