BUS-K 315 Business Process Management
To maximize value creation, organizations must carefully analyze, document, and continuously assess the efficiency and effectiveness of their business processes. With a focus on the fundamentals of business process management, the objective of this course is to learn how information technology is used to enable and manage business processes. The three main topic areas of the course are enterprise data exchange, enterprise systems, and process management and analysis. Topics include: Extensible Markup Language (XML), XML Schema and eXtensible Stylesheet Language (XSL) for managing data exchange, process management (e.g., sales order, purchasing, production) using an enterprise systems, and employing Business Process Modeling Notation (BPMN) to model, analyze, implement, evaluate, and (potentially) automate business processes. The students work hands-on with an enterprise system (e.g., SAP S/4 HANA), model business processes (e.g., BPMN, Microsoft Visio), understand the role of robotic process automation (RPA) (e.g., UiPath) in the larger context of business process management.
