BUS-G 455 Topics in BEPP: Healthcare Analytics

This course will teach students how to use economic and data analyses to understand critical issues in the US healthcare system. Despite spending far more than other OECD countries, the US scores poorly on many health outcomes such as life expectancy, preventable diseases and hospitalization, and infant mortality. Data analytics will play a major role in revolutionizing the US healthcare landscape. In this course, we will explore how to reduce costs, embrace payment reforms, encourage medical innovation, enhance competition, and understand different incentives at play in our healthcare system.
Specifically, this course will cover the following topics:
- moral hazard and adverse selection in health insurance industry
- issues related to traditional payment schemes and payment reforms
- challenges facing medical innovation and drug pricing
- firm organization and competitive landscape
- nonprofit organizations.
