This course examines early stage entrepreneurial financing. The objective of F517 is to provide students with a thorough, practical, and analytical understanding of the informal angel and formal venture capital markets and how to evaluate investments in these markets. Specific topics covered include the process of venture capital investing, the valuation of early stage investments, how early stage transactions are structured, and harvesting venture capital investments. A core component of this course is the evaluation of live business opportunities including an early stage financing simulation. Lectures, readings and case studies are used to illuminate the venture capital process.
