BUKD-Z 512 Leadership, Teams, and Inclusion

  • 12 weeks
  • 3.00 credits
  • Prerequisite(s): Core 1

Previously offered as BUKD-C 512

Teams are the backbone of most organizations, from front-line teams delivering final products to leadership teams providing organizational vision and direction. Team-related outputs continue to grow in importance, and understanding team science is crucial since teams provide structure to a firm. Effective team leadership and management are essential to maximize potential gains and minimize potential losses. Although there is a wealth of advice on how to lead teams, not all of it is evidence-based or critically reviewed. While experience is a great teacher, understanding the evidence around what makes a great team, provides for sustained team performance, and outlines outstanding leadership is crucial for a manager's success. This course will cover the art and science of effective team leadership and how managers can help develop team members to contribute to the team's growth and development over time. We will explore individual leadership styles and team leadership functions, including where shared leadership might be the norm. Additionally, we will examine why a mindset of inclusion is crucial to maximize the contributions of every team member and ensure the entire team feels recognized for their contributions to the organization's success.
