How to join the Kelley2Kelley Mentorship Program

Step 1: Check your IU email for your invitation

Check your IU email at the beginning of the summer to receive your invitation. Follow the instructions to access the Mentorship platform.

Step 2: Complete your profile

Create and publish your profile in the Mentorship platform; share your interests and experiences. When a match is ready, you will receive information with directions on how to connect.

Step 3: Make the most of your Mentorship

Connect with your Mentor/Mentee through the Mentorship platform and follow and complete your connection plan.

Why become a Mentee?

Your Mentors will inspire, encourage, and support you, and they can be a valuable resource as you transition to life at IU and Kelley.

As a Mentee, you’ll learn how to:

  • Build interpersonal skills and your network at Kelley
  • Connect with others who share common interests
  • Develop goal-setting and leadership skills
  • Explore opportunities and define your priorities
  • Find balance and wellness as you adjust to college
  • Gain confidence in your ability to navigate college

Ease your transition to college with Kelley2Kelley.

“The adjustment to college can be overwhelming, and at a big school like IU, programs such as this make a large place feel much smaller by providing a familiar face and a shoulder to lean on throughout the process of acclimating to college life!”

Who is a Kelley2Kelley Mentor?

A Mentor is a guide—a friendly person who paves the way to success and derives satisfaction from helping others succeed. Your role as Mentor is to inspire, encourage, and support your Mentee, and to contribute to their college transition and personal development. The Kelley2Kelley Mentorship Program has a special focus on wellness and balance. We encourage you to share your experience and support your Mentee in developing healthy habits as they begin their college career.

Why become a Mentor?

There are many benefits to students who participate as Mentors. It’s an opportunity for you to:

  • Advance your leadership skills
  • Develop feedback and critical thinking skills
  • Learn how to cultivate potential and development in others
  • Model techniques for achieving success and maintaining balance and wellness
  • Pay it forward and support the next class of Kelley students
  • Share what you have learned

“This program has helped me settle into college throughout a difficult transitional period. Through this mentoring program, I have found other resources available to Kelley students to help me reach and exceed my goals coming into college. I also learned how to branch out from my comfort zone and talk with someone I've never met before and trust them with my worries and uncertainties.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Mentees

Mentees are expected to commit to the Mentor/Mentee relationship for the academic year with the intention of establishing and progressing on their goals for their first year at IU. Goals are created by the Mentee. Mentors and Mentees are responsible for finding the best way to communicate their needs for their goals in the way that will feel most supportive for them. Some sample goals might include joining an IU organization, learning how to manage time, making new friends, or gaining presentation skills.

First, complete your profile (you’ll receive an invitation by email the summer before your first year at IU). The profile will gather information about your personality, interests, and primary concerns as you enter college. Mentors also complete profiles, and we will match you based on your needs.

Mentors begin their commitment in the summer. They are asked to carry this commitment for one academic year. This ensures that both the Mentor and Mentee are able to fully benefit from the relationship. Admitted Kelley students will have the opportunity to become a Mentor after their first year.

Contact the Kelley Student Support team immediately through the Mentorship platform or at ksbwell@iu.edu. We will provide our full support to navigate the situation and identify the best solutions moving forward.

Mentors

Mentors are expected to provide their Mentee with about two hours of support and interaction per month. You and your Mentee can choose how you would like to connect. Mentors should work with their Mentee to determine what kind of support will be most useful; for example, tips on getting involved, guidance for finding campus resources, advice from their own experience during their first year of college, personal encouragement, and so on.

Mentors begin their commitment in the summer. They are asked to carry this commitment for one academic year. This ensures that both the Mentor and Mentee are able to fully benefit from the relationship.

Mentors will be assigned up to three Mentees to mentor individually with the opportunity to meet as a group as well. Mentors can elect to have fewer than three Mentees if they have limited time.

Contact the Kelley Student Support team immediately through the Mentorship platform or at ksbwell@iu.edu. We will provide our full support to navigate the situation and identify the best solutions moving forward.

“My experience has been rewarding, giving back by sharing what I've learned with someone else in the Kelley community. I'm happy to reflect on and share my college experiences through this program.”
