Choosing your major

The Kelley School core curriculum, along with cocurricular activities and career exploration opportunities, will help you identify your strengths and interests—and your career path. Your first two years at Kelley will be focused on core business skills and academic and career exploration.

Business undergraduate majors and co-majors

To learn about specific major and co-major requirements, students should review the Kelley academic bulletin for the year they started at IUB.

Study the methods involved in making a financial record of business transactions and the preparation of statements concerning the assets, liabilities, and operating results of a business. Careers include positions in auditing, corporate accounting, management consulting, governmental and not-for-profit organizations, and taxation.

This co-major provides a blend of conceptual and analytical approaches that will hone your critical thinking and data-driven decision-making. This training is especially relevant for careers with technology and data providers.

Marketing encompasses all activities related to the creation, promotion, and distribution of goods and services by producers, for consumers. As a professional sales representative, you will provide products and services to other businesses. With this major, you will prepare for careers in professional sales, learning to create value for business customers and solve customer problems, as well as for opportunities in corporate retail, marketing research, advertising, and brand management.

This major examines organizational processes using readily available and practical analytical tools. You'll learn to manage the operations of complex, computer-integrated firms, such as manufacturing companies, multi-branch banking, retail chains, international assembly plants, and distribution centers.

As a professional sales representative, you will provide products and services to other businesses. This co-major will help you gain the necessary knowledge and skills to create value for business customers and solve customer problems.

Business undergraduate minors and certificates

Earning a minor or certificate from the top-ranked Kelley School of Business will get you closer to achieving your career goals. Students pursuing IU Bloomington undergraduate degrees outside of the Kelley School are eligible to complete any or all of the business minors and/or the certificates, in accordance with any applicable policies of their degree-granting school. To learn about specific minor and certificate requirements, students should review the Kelley academic bulletin for the year they started at IUB.

Minors

Develop your general business knowledge and skills, from the basics of accounting to the principles of strategic management.

Want to open your own business or work for a smaller, perhaps family-owned, business? This minor will strengthen your entrepreneurial skills and prepare you to contribute innovative ideas.

Every business decision, in one way or another, comes down to money. The courses in this minor will improve your abilities in finance.

To succeed in business, you have to understand consumers and how to communicate with them. 

Certificates

This certificate provides a foundation in accounting principles and a pathway to completing the accounting course prerequisites for the Kelley MSADA program.

The need to understand entrepreneurship applies across various disciplines. This certificate provides a foundation in the basics of entrepreneurship while allowing for some tailoring to the student’s specific interest area(s).

This certificate offers an introduction to financial management, real estate analysis and appraisals, and key decision-making skills.

Through this certificate, students will learn about the planning, organization, and management of the flow of information, materials, and services into and out of organizations.
