Internship experiences help you narrow your interests and give you a competitive edge when you got apply for full-time jobs. You may even meet your next employer.

What is an internship?

  • Internships are three-to-four-month opportunities that allow you to apply classroom knowledge from your Kelley major to solve real-world problems.
  • You can complete fall, spring, and summer internships as early as freshman year.
  • The more work experience you gain, the better. Completing at least one internship before graduation will prepare you for future interviews and give you a feel for the professional world.

Start your internship search early. Log in to the Handshake job platform and make a career coaching appointment with a Kelley Indianapolis Career Services staff member.

Description of the video:

[MUSIC]

The first thing I heard about the Business Bluffs program was that it was very competitive.

And I am very competitive myself.

So that was a big motivation.

And after I was called to do the interviews, I prepared myself and I was able to get the role.

This internship has changed my look at majors.

At first I was in Business Management, but I have decided to double major in Marketing as well,

since I am in the Marketing/Retail side of Farm Animal at Elanco.

But definitely looking into Marketing, but it has been a lot more analytical than I thought,

which that's a little bit of how my mind works.

I would most definitely encourage other students to apply to this program, especially as freshmen.

You're getting those opportunities to work with other people older than you, getting those connections,

getting those skills that not a lot of people our age are getting.

I think it's very enlightening to see how it all comes together to provide what modern-day corporate America is.

Essentially what I'm working on is creating a co-positioning for the beef team.

So there's one for poultry, there's one for swine, but there isn't really one for beef.

So I'm really getting the opportunity to build one from the ground up.

You can learn stuff in class, but you don't really know how it's applied in the real world sense

until you're actually in the real world.

So being able to have this experience helps me understand what I'm looking for,

and what I'm looking for is a major, right career path for me.

The application will remain open until Monday, September 14. Late applications will be accepted through Monday, September 21, but only on-time applications will be sent to employers in advance. Applicants should plan to participate in a recruiting/networking event for the program on the morning of Friday, September 25.

How Business Plus works

During your first or second year as a Kelley, you’ll attend an event at Kelley Indianapolis to meet Business Plus partner companies and learn more about your career options. You’ll get the opportunity to interview with employers for first-year internships, with the possibility to rotate to an additional experience your sophomore year.

Throughout your studies, your courses are timed specifically to prepare you for these on-the-job experiences. By completing internships early, you’ll gain significantly more experience than most college students, better preparing you for internship and job placements in the future.

Business Plus throughout your degree

As you meet more employers and learn more about the various career paths available to you, you may decide to pursue additional internships, full-time co-op arrangements, or other options. The Business Plus Program hands-on opportunities throughout your undergraduate studies, so you can apply your education in real time.

It may look like this:

Take classes in the fall semester, intern part-time with a company in the spring, and have the option for a summer internship.

Transition to a new company to gain exposure in another area of business and finalize your major. You can also take classes in the fall and complete part-time spring and summer internships.

You have the flexibility to complete classes and part-time internships, as well as a summer internship, with the same company or another of your choosing. You may also explore a full-time summer co-op.

You and the employer decide on a timeframe for an internship or a full-time co-op at the company.

Depending on your interests and the company’s needs, you may continue with the same employer in later years or move on to new opportunities.
