Leadership Immersion Week: Pit Crew Challenge

Start your engines for an empowering Leadership Immersion Week to kick off the program. One way the Physician MBA Program delivers hands-on leadership lessons is through the Pit Crew Challenge.

    Description of the video:

Leadership is important to our physician MBAs because we believe that what they're learning now is going to change healthcare for the future. We really

like this Pit Crew Challenge as a unique opportunity to really get everyone in a situation where they have no context where they have no experience, it's about talking to each other and communicating in ways that drives forward a mission. Because it has so many important skills and concepts baked in, it really connects to all that we're discussing throughout the week.

So serving on a pit crew requires not only strong teamwork but also trust in one another to ensure that the job gets done, not only quickly but safely. And this same can be said about medicine. Hoping to gain leadership skills that will allow me to become a more effective leader, not only in my practice, but also in my institution and help steer medicine in a direction that will benefit not only healthcare providers but also patients.

I work daily with a team who helps facilitate the movement of patients through the clinic. I have team members who work up the patients who see the patients with me we have to work together, we have to work in a concerted fashion, and that is very similar in my opinion to a pit crew

    How it works

Our in-person class sessions are held every three months on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday in downtown Indianapolis. One of the country’s largest cities and a global convention destination, Indianapolis offers easy and direct travel with a world-class airport and exceptional hotel accommodations within walking distance of the executive classroom suite, which is located just 20 minutes from the airport.

Kelley's Business of Medicine residency sessions make the most of your time on campus with an immersive experience that includes everything from group problem solving to guest speakers, "live" case studies and a lecture series. The in-person residency sessions will tie together all of your coursework in powerful meetings that help you explore your interests within the business of medicine. This is the only physician MBA program offering CME credits. So while you’re in the classroom learning, you’re also earning 1 hour of AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ (recognized by AOA as Category 1-B) for every hour spent in residency.

Indianapolis International Airport was recognized for Best Airport in North America by Airports Council International and Best Airport in America by Condé Nast Traveler readers.

“The biggest myth about going back to school is that it’s hard to learn and apply new concepts. As physicians, we’re constantly learning and adapting to provide better care, so the learning process often comes naturally. The key difference is that business school fosters a more collaborative environment compared to the more individual-focused nature of medical training.”

James Dunlap, MD, MBA’25Strategy and Operations Consultant at Premier Health Partners
