Accelerated MS in Finance

This fast-track finance degree pathway allows eligible IU Bloomington students to begin graduate study as undergraduates and work toward both degrees on an accelerated timeline. By combining undergraduate and graduate study, you can develop advanced expertise early, build on your existing academic background, and enter the workforce with a master’s degree sooner.

An accelerated master’s degree can:

  • Save time and reduce the overall cost of earning a graduate degree
  • Allow you to gain advanced, specialized knowledge
  • Strengthen your professional readiness
  • Enhance your career opportunities
  • Transition you seamlessly from undergraduate to graduate study

Plan to apply during your junior year after completing the requirements for your AMP pathway.

Your accelerated finance degree path

The AMP pathway for MSF starts with early planning. Use your first years at IU Bloomington to understand the requirements for your undergraduate major, complete prerequisites, and make room for graduate coursework.

Work with your undergraduate advisor to make room for the coursework required for an accelerated master’s in finance. Learn about MSF by attending an event and meeting students.

Complete required prerequisites and apply to the MSF program. For Kelley students, the finance AMP decision is made after completing BUS-F 370 I-Core Finance or BUS-F 304 Financial Management: Honors.

Meeting minimum eligibility requirements does not guarantee admission. Admission is dependent upon completing your bachelor’s degree requirements and any additional conditions by the required deadlines.

Complete approved graduate-level coursework while finishing your bachelor’s degree, following the coursework sequence for your undergraduate background.

Important: Kelley Bloomington non-finance majors and IU Bloomington undergraduates pursuing nonbusiness bachelor’s degrees begin in the summer.

Find the AMP path that fits your background

The MSF is designed to build on the coursework and knowledge you already have. The way your undergraduate and graduate coursework connects depends on your major and if you qualify for the eligibility requirements.

Course offerings and AMP requirements are subject to change.

  • Junior standing or above (60+ credit hours)
  • Minimum 3.75 cumulative GPA
  • Completion of BUS-F 370 I-Core Finance or BUS-F 304 Financial Management: Honors (for Business Honors students) before the admission decision

Once admitted, up to 6 credit hours of BUS-F 500-level courses from the MS in Finance curriculum can fulfill up to 6 credit hours of BUS-F 400-level finance electives in the undergraduate finance major.

  • Junior standing or above (60+ credit hours)
  • Minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA
  • Completion of BUS-F 370 I-Core Finance or BUS-F 304 Financial Management: Honors (for Business Honors students) before the admission decision

Up to 6 credit hours of BUS-F 400-level coursework offered by the student’s undergraduate major may apply toward the AMP when the coursework is relevant to the student’s career goals and combines their undergraduate background with finance training.

  • Junior standing or above (60+ credit hours)
  • Minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA

Before beginning graduate finance courses, students must complete BUS-X 545 Business Foundations (6 credit hours).

Additionally, up to 6 credit hours of BUS-F 400-level coursework offered by the student’s undergraduate major may also apply when the coursework is relevant to the student’s career goals and combines their undergraduate background with finance training.

Tuition and financial aid

Students who begin the MSF early through AMP are charged graduate tuition rates for graduate-level coursework in accordance with university policies.

Merit-based fellowships and graduate assistantship opportunities are available. Eligible students are automatically considered at the time of admission; no separate application is required. Students with existing scholarships should check with their scholarship administrator to determine whether their scholarship applies to the AMP pathway.

Ready to accelerate your finance career?

Your accelerated finance degree plan depends on your undergraduate degree requirements, finance prerequisites, and the coursework available to you. Talk with your undergraduate academic advisor about how the pathway could fit your degree plan before applying. Contact Kelley Graduate Admissions at ksbgrad@iu.edu to discuss your accelerated MSF pathway.
