This eight-week 3.0 credit hour course is designed to extend the knowledge gained in D270 (Global Business Environment) and to provide an international travel experience that will involve company visits and cultural activities. Ghana is one of the main gateways to West Africa, combining a rich history with a thriving business environment. This course explores different business and organizational issues in Ghana, together with an analysis of that country's cultural, social, and economic development. The course also focuses on an extended toolset that will prepare students to conduct country analyses in a variety of environments and regions of the world. Students will leave this course better prepared to do business in a variety of contexts, especially those involving developing nations. In particular, we examine the issues caused by an underdeveloped infrastructure and its effects in business practices and models. We also explore creative solutions people have used to deal with a faulty infrastructure. Finally, we analyze the main reasons why the world’s attention is turning to Africa as the next big opportunity for growth.
