In this course, students will apply critical thinking and analytical reasoning skills to use economic models and real data—from player performance and salaries to ticket sales and team revenues—to understand how decisions are made in the business of sports. Students will learn to apply economic and analytical tools to evaluate player productivity, team strategies, revenue generation, and policy issues such as stadium financing. Along the way, we’ll examine how economic principles shape sports markets and how data helps teams and leagues make smarter decisions. Topics include labor markets, competitive balance, fan behavior, and performance analytics.
