“I was most interested in finding the best possible marketing program where students enjoy the classroom experience and have access to great companies,” Bere said.
Preparation for the future
Once he became a student at Kelley, Bere won a case competition at the end of the Core, the intensive multidisciplinary academic program that lays the foundation for the Kelley experience. The case competition was an opportunity for MBA students to put their skills to the test in front of corporate recruiters. The competition allowed him to put together everything he’d learned.
“It was a great experience because I got to work with Kelley students I hadn’t worked with before,” Bere said. “The Kelley culture is collaborative. It creates an environment where success is often achieved.”
When discussing his classes, Bere said that even though the Core was difficult, it was a rewarding academic experience that prepared him for the rest of the MBA program.
“Kelley prepares you for your summer internship and full-time job,” Bere said. “The Consumer Marketing Academy (CMA) gave me the tools I needed to be successful. It allows you to learn from great professors and practice marketing in a collaborative, community-focused environment—all creating an enriching experience of self-discovery.”
Bere says his defining moment was landing his full-time position at Target. He completed an internship with Target, and his CMA project was based on the company as well.
“When networking with Target, I was really impressed with the culture and the people,” Bere said. “Not to mention the great opportunities for personal growth.”
Tools to Build Momentum
“I’m motivated by the opportunity to continuously learn new things, and getting an MBA is just the beginning,” Bere said. “It gives you the tools you need to optimize opportunities. From day one, we were coached on how to cultivate our version of success—and that plan has held true.”
The Academies become the medium where classroom material and principles are thoughtfully applied to real situations—all within the scope of each student’s concentrated focus or desired field of interest. Through the CMA Bere learned a variety of approaches to marketing as well as the skills to be successful in the workplace.
As Bere embarks on a new chapter of his career, it’s clear that it is not only the hard and soft skills honed through Kelley that will take him where he wants to go, but also the support system of dedicated faculty, mentors, coaches, and peers.
“In many ways, success is discovering what you are truly passionate about and making a career of it,” Bere said. “Have you ever been around someone who truly loves what they do? It’s contagious and inspiring. Everything at Kelley is a springboard for something greater.”
