Online Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification Program

Lean Six Sigma Green Belt online course structure

The 10-week online green belt certification is designed to provide working professionals with an introduction to data-driven process improvement that aligns with the American Society of Quality Lean Six Sigma standards. At the end of the course, participants who pass both the cumulative exam and the A3 Project with a 73% or higher will receive a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification from Kelley School of Business Executive Education Programs. The application of tools learned in the course for the A3 Project will be required for certification.

The course will meet online one night a week for 10 weeks, with each session lasting one and a half hours. Sessions will be recorded, and work will include a series of practice quizzes leading up to the comprehensive final exam. The application of tools learned in the course for the A3 Project will be required for certification.

The curriculum for the Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification from the Kelley School is completely aligned with the American Society for Quality (ASQ) Green Belt Body of Knowledge. It also offers the only online courseware that has been reviewed and approved by ASQ.

Learn about Lean Six Sigma concepts and language and the Define-Measure-Analyze-Improve-Control (DMAIC) roadmap for improvement.

Project initiation

Discover a process for selecting improvement projects and tracking those projects, as well as tools to lead teams and manage change.

Voice of the customer

Learn a systematic process to collect voice-of-the-customer information, analyze that information, fully develop customer requirements, and translate those requirements into specifications.

Mapping the process

Explore tools to investigate the process of interest by creating visual maps of process flow, including suppliers, inputs, process, outputs, and customers (SIPOC) maps, process flow charts, value-added flow charts, and value stream maps.

Measurements & basic statistics

Learn about measurement fundamentals, including types of metrics, as well as basic statistical terms and forms of graphical analysis.

Measurement system analysis

Gain tools to collect sample data, evaluate the reliability of those measurements, and establish baseline process performance.

Participants are encouraged to download the trial version of this software, use it during the class, and decide after the trial period if the software is useful. Meet the instructors

Scott Dobos headshot

Scott Dobos

Scott is currently a senior lecturer at the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University. He received his MBA in Accounting from the University of Connecticut and his master's in engineering from RPI, as well as a master’s in supply chain management from the Kelley School. He teaches in the areas of global sourcing, logistics, operations management, sustainability and the practicum in SC Consulting. Scott came to Kelley after 20 years in a corporate career. Throughout those 20 years, he spent time in virtually every function, including accounting, finance, operations, quality, sales, logistics, and sourcing. He played an active role in systems design and measurement reporting.

Katie Votolato

Katie received her MBA from the Kelley School of Business and is currently a senior lecturer for the school. She teaches in the areas of Lean Six Sigma and design thinking and consults through her own firm, Continuous Results. Katie has worked in a variety of industries including automotive, aviation, energy, healthcare, and distribution and has performed a variety of functions from quality, engineering, and production to purchasing, supplier development, and project management. Before joining Kelley, she worked for eight years in operations and supply chain functions for two of the global leaders in manufacturing, Toyota and General Electric. While at Toyota, she learned and practiced Lean Six Sigma, Toyota Production Systems, and Toyota’s methodical approach to problem-solving, both in Toyota factories and at suppliers’ plants. Katie’s focus area is continuous improvement through action-based problem-solving, resulting in measurable change in organizations.

Julia A. Kalish headshot

Julia Kalish

Julia A. Kalish, PhD, is a clinical assistant professor of operations and decision technology at the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University. She has over 20 years of experience as a university professor at prestigious institutions such as Indiana University, the University of Notre Dame, Purdue University, and Loyola University Chicago. She has earned a reputation as a top-tier educator. Her commitment to excellence is evidenced by awards, including being voted Best Professor on Campus in the Purdue Exponent’s Reader’s Choice Awards and Best Undergraduate Teacher at Purdue's Krannert School of Management. Julia holds the coveted title of a Purdue Honorary Old Master. In addition to academic achievements, she holds certifications as a Project Management Professional (PMP), Lean Six Sigma Black Belt (LSSBB), and Indiana Realtor. She has invaluable industry experience in manufacturing, retail, and food service.

Julia has taught in IU’s programs at both the MBA and undergraduate levels. She focuses her instruction on making knowledge accessible to learners from every background and starting point.

Julia is a US Army veteran, keynote speaker, small business owner, DIY junkie, hiker, Wordle enthusiast, proud parent of four, organic gardener, and podcast lover.
