Description of the video:

WEBVTT

1
00:00:00.500 --> 00:00:02.120
- [Andy] When you're playing
football, you're busy,

2
00:00:02.120 --> 00:00:04.670
life is hectic, you're
moving around the country.

3
00:00:04.670 --> 00:00:06.990
And then all of the
sudden, your career's over.

4
00:00:06.990 --> 00:00:09.340
And you've gained all these
skills, you have this network,

5
00:00:09.340 --> 00:00:11.470
you've met these amazing people.

6
00:00:11.470 --> 00:00:13.880
Leaving the game, I realized

7
00:00:13.880 --> 00:00:16.770
that those only are gonna take you so far.

8
00:00:16.770 --> 00:00:18.417
- You reach a point and you say that,

9
00:00:18.417 --> 00:00:20.530
"How can I add more value to myself?"

10
00:00:20.530 --> 00:00:22.870
I felt like an MBA was
the right thing to provide

11
00:00:22.870 --> 00:00:24.870
the education and the awareness,

12
00:00:24.870 --> 00:00:26.730
so that I could do my job even better.

13
00:00:26.730 --> 00:00:30.620
- We're providing all of our
students with what we call

14
00:00:30.620 --> 00:00:32.200
an executive tool kit.

15
00:00:32.200 --> 00:00:36.890
That's a series of frameworks
and skills and capabilities.

16
00:00:36.890 --> 00:00:40.067
They feel confident that they know how to

17
00:00:40.067 --> 00:00:43.600
address the problem, develop solutions,

18
00:00:43.600 --> 00:00:48.290
and then how to execute those
solutions once developed.

19
00:00:48.290 --> 00:00:50.370
- [Lester] Going to a school
that had a strong reputation

20
00:00:50.370 --> 00:00:51.580
really meant something to me.

21
00:00:51.580 --> 00:00:53.640
Just getting a rubber stamp on a degree

22
00:00:53.640 --> 00:00:55.220
was not what I was looking for,

23
00:00:55.220 --> 00:00:57.660
and then looking at the
flexibility of the program

24
00:00:57.660 --> 00:00:59.220
also really drew me to it.

25
00:00:59.220 --> 00:01:03.180
- [Rich] You're not tied to
attending in-person instruction

26
00:01:03.180 --> 00:01:05.310
at any one moment in a week.

27
00:01:05.310 --> 00:01:08.010
That enables you to execute a schedule

28
00:01:08.010 --> 00:01:10.830
that makes the most
sense for you personally.

29
00:01:10.830 --> 00:01:13.630
- [Andy] I travel for
work a lot with the NFLPA,

30
00:01:13.630 --> 00:01:17.680
and I have four kids, and I
get my work done sporadically

31
00:01:17.680 --> 00:01:21.370
on airplanes and hotels, at
night when the kids are in bed.

32
00:01:21.370 --> 00:01:23.210
Our program advisors that I work with

33
00:01:23.210 --> 00:01:25.190
want to help guys succeed.

34
00:01:25.190 --> 00:01:27.160
I've been really impressed
with the professors.

35
00:01:27.160 --> 00:01:29.310
They're responsive, they
don't make you feel like

36
00:01:29.310 --> 00:01:30.810
you're not in the classroom.

37
00:01:30.810 --> 00:01:32.490
- [Lester] It's not like a
webinar, where you're just

38
00:01:32.490 --> 00:01:33.980
sitting there and listening to videos,

39
00:01:33.980 --> 00:01:35.570
you really have the
opportunity to interact

40
00:01:35.570 --> 00:01:36.470
with a human being.

41
00:01:36.470 --> 00:01:38.890
- What I enjoy most about
the course work is that

42
00:01:38.890 --> 00:01:40.130
I think it's relevant.

43
00:01:40.130 --> 00:01:42.690
I'm seeing it play out in my daily life.

44
00:01:42.690 --> 00:01:45.100
I'm starting to understand
how businesses work,

45
00:01:45.100 --> 00:01:46.770
how people make decisions.

46
00:01:46.770 --> 00:01:48.860
- [Lester] I'm actually
in a managerial role

47
00:01:48.860 --> 00:01:50.550
with the NFL Players Association now,

48
00:01:50.550 --> 00:01:51.710
which is something that I didn't have

49
00:01:51.710 --> 00:01:55.150
the necessary pedigree to have before.

50
00:01:55.150 --> 00:01:56.880
You don't have to commit to an MBA,

51
00:01:56.880 --> 00:01:58.200
maybe you've got a financial interest

52
00:01:58.200 --> 00:01:59.650
or you've got entrepreneurial interest,

53
00:01:59.650 --> 00:02:01.280
well then do the certificate program.

54
00:02:01.280 --> 00:02:02.270
And it's a little bit shorter,

55
00:02:02.270 --> 00:02:05.130
it's a little bit less of a
commitment and you get to see.

56
00:02:05.130 --> 00:02:07.290
For guys who are active players,

57
00:02:07.290 --> 00:02:09.180
at the end of the year they
get a chance to get reimbursed

58
00:02:09.180 --> 00:02:11.300
for the money that they spent
on themselves and education.

59
00:02:11.300 --> 00:02:14.360
Well that's fantastic, so
it's a no-lose situation.

60
00:02:14.360 --> 00:02:16.530
- [Andy] For football
players particularly,

61
00:02:16.530 --> 00:02:18.340
we're used to being really successful.

62
00:02:18.340 --> 00:02:20.690
We're used to being the best on the team.

63
00:02:20.690 --> 00:02:24.050
Trying something that you might
not be good at is daunting.

64
00:02:24.050 --> 00:02:26.980
Be willing to expose yourself,
be willing to be vulnerable,

65
00:02:26.980 --> 00:02:29.890
admit where you're weak:
you'll be glad that you did it.

66
00:02:29.890 --> 00:02:32.240
- [Lester] You've now not
only got an experience

67
00:02:32.240 --> 00:02:34.660
from the NFL, whether it's
two years or ten years,

68
00:02:34.660 --> 00:02:36.640
but you've got an ability to combine that

69
00:02:36.640 --> 00:02:39.460
with an educational experience
that's gonna equip you

70
00:02:39.460 --> 00:02:41.690
to face all the challenges
that business world will face,

71
00:02:41.690 --> 00:02:44.529
just like you faced them
on the athletic field.

72
00:02:44.529 --> 00:02:47.112
(upbeat music)

Your next step after the NFL: Earn a Kelley MBA like Jordan Evans

After a knee injury led to his retirement from the NFL, Jordan Evans made a plan for the next phase of his career: earning his MBA. Kelley’s partnership with the NFL Players Association provided the flexible course options he needed to fit classes into his schedule. The tuition reimbursement program for NFLPA members funded his education, and the supportive Kelley community championed him forward.

Description of the video:

WEBVTT 1 00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:01.625 (Jordan Evans) My name is Jordan Evans, 2 00:00:01.625 --> 00:00:03.120 and I played in the NFL five years 3 00:00:03.120 --> 00:00:04.720 with the Cincinnati Bengals. 4 00:00:04.720 --> 00:00:06.720 I had one of those moments where you 5 00:00:06.720 --> 00:00:09.020 see the end of your career knocking on the door, 6 00:00:09.020 --> 00:00:11.240 and you ask yourself, what's next? 7 00:00:11.240 --> 00:00:13.360 And so in 2021, I blew my knee out 8 00:00:13.360 --> 00:00:15.040 versus the Green Bay Packers. 9 00:00:15.040 --> 00:00:17.680 And in January, I enrolled and started taking classes 10 00:00:17.680 --> 00:00:19.160 for my master's. 11 00:00:19.160 --> 00:00:22.157 The NFL life, the free agent life is very sporadic, 12 00:00:22.157 --> 00:00:23.740 and you really don't know what's next. 13 00:00:23.740 --> 00:00:27.000 So it's really helpful to know that the program was flexible 14 00:00:27.000 --> 00:00:29.320 and that I can take as many classes as I want. 15 00:00:29.320 --> 00:00:32.520 I can also pause it and come back at the next semester. 16 00:00:32.520 --> 00:00:34.720 One thing that I won't forget is just how 17 00:00:34.720 --> 00:00:36.640 encouraging my classmates were. 18 00:00:36.640 --> 00:00:38.660 I didn't study business in undergrad, 19 00:00:38.660 --> 00:00:41.240 and so some of the classes were foreign to me, 20 00:00:41.240 --> 00:00:42.900 and I started to have a little doubt. 21 00:00:42.900 --> 00:00:46.200 But a lot of my classmates poured a lot of encouragement 22 00:00:46.200 --> 00:00:48.520 that gave me the confidence to push through. 23 00:00:48.520 --> 00:00:49.980 Do not get discouraged. 24 00:00:49.980 --> 00:00:51.580 There are times that it is tough. 25 00:00:51.580 --> 00:00:54.560 There are times that you feel like you're in over your head, 26 00:00:54.560 --> 00:00:56.020 but you'll be able to push through. 27 00:00:56.020 --> 00:00:58.562 You was able to push through all the fall camps, the training 28 00:00:58.562 --> 00:01:00.260 camps, those hard fourth quarters. 29 00:01:00.260 --> 00:01:03.380 You'll be able to push through this degree program as well. 30 00:01:03.380 --> 00:01:05.480 The NFLPA, through the reimbursement program 31 00:01:05.480 --> 00:01:08.420 and the tuition program, will pay for your education. 32 00:01:08.420 --> 00:01:10.158 And so why not take advantage of that 33 00:01:10.158 --> 00:01:11.700 and add credentials behind your name? 34 00:01:11.700 --> 00:01:15.050 [music playing] 35 00:01:15.050 --> 00:01:17.000
