The Business Plan project is a cornerstone of the Honors I - Core experience. In addition to being a comprehensive learning experience, this project may also put students on the way to an entrepreneurial career! The objective of the business plan project is to develop a business plan that is attractive enough that investors would be willing to put money into the venture.
Students should design a for-profit business that sells a product or service that is innovative, technologically feasible (technology is available or could be readily developed), has an identifiable market, and scalable to possibly domestic and foreign markets. Generally, small, local businesses might not be appropriate unless they can be scaled up through multiple outlets or some type of franchise arrangement. Past Honors I -Core students have proposed a range of businesses.
What you will do as the alumni volunteer
- Listen to the student team pitch on their respective project and provide input/suggestions as they are being developed earlier in the semester.
- As student projects come to completion, hear a last pitch before students present their respective final recommendations – similar to what is called a “smoke test” to adjust or refine or simply make changes.
