Welcome to Indiana University

Indiana University is one of the world’s top research universities. IU’s more than 40,000 undergraduate and graduate students come from all 50 states and 130 countries. IU offers more than 350 degree programs—including business, education, languages, the arts, and sciences—and we encourage students to minor or double-major in areas that interest them. Whatever you want to do in life, you can study it at IU. And if you’re interested in adding a major we don’t offer, you can create it through the Individualized Major Program.

IU is a leader in the life sciences, improving the health of Hoosiers through groundbreaking research and the education of health professionals at our schools of medicine, dentistry, optometry, and nursing. With impressive technological resources like our supercomputer, nicknamed Big Red, we generate life-changing discoveries faster than ever before. Our researchers in the life sciences and other fields turn breakthroughs into business, generating start-up companies and employment opportunities statewide.

Kelley students, faculty, and alumni are major contributors to the effort. The Johnson Center’s Entrepreneurial Innovations Lab (EIL) bridges the gap between life sciences, health care research, and business opportunities while the Kelley School's Center for the Business of Life Sciences works to bring together students, faculty, and life science companies to strengthen the life science industry.

We’ve garnered national attention for our outstanding programs for first-year students, study abroad programs, and wired and wireless access for students. In fact, Newsweek recently named IU the nation’s “Hottest Big State School.”

Led by President Michael A. McRobbie, IU has eight campuses throughout the state, including the flagship campus in Bloomington. The university was founded in 1820.
