The course is designed to improve the understanding of and to develop skills in the design and implementation of business databases using database management systems (DBMS). Emphasis is on the practical aspects of database design and development. Topics include conceptual design of database systems using the entity-relationship (ER) model, logical design and normalization, physical design, and the relational database model with SQL as a language for creating and manipulating database objects. There is a significant hands-on use of DBMS technology and its use in systems design and implementation.
