"Network Helps Launch MFI!"
Neil (BS '09) & Billy (BS '09) - 06/28/2012
Neil (BS '09) and Billy (BS '09) became interested in microfinance while students. They reached out to Jeremy (BS '03), who was working in Uganda as a business development manager for a microfinance institution (MFI). Through Jeremy, they were able to visit Uganda Microfinance Ltd. in 2008 to gain firsthand perspectives on developmental retail finance and how MFIs are being used in East Africa to extend access to credit and improve people's livelihoods. Subsequently, Neil and Billy founded the Trockman Microfinance Initiative at the Kelley School to provide other students with the opportunity to learn about microfinance. Neil's and Billy's connection with Jeremy also led to a $100,000 donation to form an endowment which has been used to fund microfinance-related international travel experiences for students.
