"...try, try again."
Jim (Kelley Direct MBA '11) - 12/22/2011
Jim received his MBA from the Kelley Direct program in March of 2011. After spending almost 20 years working in IT for the state of Vermont Jim realized it was time for a change. With widespread state budget cuts he was concerned about losing his job and tired of the challenges that come with working in the public sector. He decided he wanted to transition to the private sector and hoped he could find something in consutling. Because of his years of experience with the state he had a number of contacts in private consulting who had done work for Vermont. He rolled through all his contacts and although people tried to help nothing materialized. Being a recent Kelley alum he decided to try networking with other Kelley alumni. In July he made contact with Todd (BS '03, MSIS '04) through Kelley inCircle. Todd works in IT consulting for Accenture and is a Kelley Alumni Leader. Todd agreed to speak with Jim. After an initial conversation, Todd began advocating for Jim within his department. Although no positions were available that fit Jim's background at that time in July Todd kept trying. Todd eventually helped Jim get an interview and at the end of November of 2011, four months after their first conversation, Jim accepted a job as an IT consultant at Accenture. Out of all of Jim's contacts, it was an unknown Kelley alum that helped the most in the end, and who provided 4 months worth of ongoing support for Jim's candidacy.
