About UsMISSIONTo unite the students, faculty, staff and alumni of the Kelley School of Business community through the promotion and sales of apparel and merchandise that exemplifies the tradition, pride and loyalty that continues to distinguish our business school.
HISTORYFounded in the Fall of 2010, The Kelley Bstore is a student-run retail store that offers a variety of Kelley-branded apparel items to provide prospective students, current students, faculty, staff, and alumni with a way to showcase their Kelley pride. As a student organization, the Bstore gives students an outlet to utilize practical applications of their Kelley education by operating a real business. Students are responsible for multiple facets—including market research, product development, inventory management, financial analysis and customer service.
By students, for students – The Kelley Bstore reaches out to clubs within the Kelley community and donates profits to differing organizations weekly. Continuously striving to grow and improve, the Bstore looks forward to the years of business ahead. TESTIMONIALSAnna Orlow on how the Bstore helped her achieve a job:“The Bstore has developed me as a leader, and those leadership experiences helped me gain my future job. I’ve learned how to better manage, inspire, and direct those I manage. In any leadership role, there will be ups and downs. But during the “ups” I was able to establish myself as a leader, and during the “downs” I was able to learn from my mistakes and improve my leadership style. I’ve learned that one of the best ways to be successful when interviewing is to talk about something you are passionate about. Those that know me know that the Bstore is one of my passions. So when not asked about the Bstore, which was not often, I would always try to work it into an interview. I am proud of the club and cannot wait to watch it grow in the future.” Jake Koetter on interviewing and advice to future Bstorer’s:“Out of five interviews I was asked about the Bstore in four. It was extremely beneficial to my success to be able to explain the big picture of the Bstore and how I specifically impacted the Bstore. My advice to future Bstorers is strive to make your ideas a reality and learn from them no matter the end result. I have been a part of initiatives in the Bstore that have worked out great and also done things that have been a failure however, I learned from my successes and possibly learned more from my mistakes. If it doesn't work out, analyze why, don't make the same mistake twice, and move on.” Alli King on how the Bstore has improved her professionally:“Without the Kelley Bstore I would not be where I am today academically or professionally. By providing real world experience, I was able to run an actual business and see the sales process from beginning to end happen in front of me. It’s one thing to be able to learn all you can in your business classes and get all As. It’s another thing to actually use what you learn in a real setting. The Bstore has allowed me, and every other member, to put what we are learning into action and learn continuously from that process. In addition to the constant learning, I experienced managing a team ranging from 5 to 50 people during my Bstore career. Few graduating seniors are able to say they have that experience, and it is what definitely set me apart in my interviews and landed me my full time job. However, real world experience and professional development isn’t the only thing the Bstore gave me. Reflecting back, the friendships I have made with all Bstore members are what truly stand out to me. I highly recommend the Bstore to any student wanting real world experience in a professional setting with great people and friends.” Kathryn Walsh on Kelley pride:“Starting with the Bstore Junior year, I already had an internship/job, and therefore was not using my involvement as a resume builder. I committed to the position on behalf of the respect and pride I hold towards Kelley. However, my experience has proven many benefits and provided me with professional skills I would not have been accustomed to prior to entering the “real world.” Although I am an accounting major, I have gained a better understanding of business as a whole through managing operations and working directly with all other managers. I have specifically learned about customer relations, supplier relations, and teamwork; all which will be very useful in my career. The Bstore has connected me to students of various backgrounds and majors. As a member of the Bstore, I hope you realize the contribution and pride you hold towards Kelley and IU. One of the most rewarding experiences is spotting Bstore apparel in a different city, state, or even country! Our organization has brought a very unique aspect to the Kelley School that would not have been possible without our members’ dedication, commitment, and engagement.” Greg Janowiak on his Internship at the State House:“My Bstore experience has already helped me out on several occasions, from dealing with constituent assistance to maintaining general organization and professional decorum.” Melissa Manson on her Bstore manager experience: "My experience as a manager with the Bstore was the perfect capstone to my Kelley career and gave me a practical application to utilize the business education and interpersonal skills I developed over the past four years as a student. Working with the management team, store associates, customers and faculty provided me with the rewarding experience of seeing a business grow and transform on a daily basis and was an opportunity that truly embodied the Kelley spirit of entrepreneurship and innovation."
