Sallie W. Rowland Sallie W. Rowland (BS '54)
Distinguished Entrepreneur 1995

Sallie Rowland, ASID, IDA, is Chairman and CEO of Rowland Design, Inc. in Indianapolis, a company she founded nearly 30 years ago. Widely recognized for excellence in the field of interior design, architecture and graphic design, Rowland Design has ranked five times in the Top 100 Interior Design GIANTS listing. The company has received two Monumental Affair Awards for Excellence in Interior Design and 13 ASID Indiana Chapter Awards for Excellence in Interior Design. Additional citations include the Preservation Alliance Medallion and the Commission for Downtown Indianapolis.

From the Eli Lilly Biomedical Research and Training Center and Union Station to the Indiana Memorial Union, Rowland Design has created interior design solutions for a variety of industries including finance, hospitality, health care, public space, retail, education and visual merchandising.

In addition to leading her own firm, Ms. Rowland is a member of the board of directors of NBD Indiana Bank, Indianapolis Power & Light Company, and Meridian Mutual Insurance Company. An active and dedicated member of her community, she served as the 1994 Campaign Chair for United Way of Central Indiana. She is also a member of the President's Advisory Council of Purdue University, Vice Chairman of the Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, and a member of the board of trustees of Hanover College.

Among her many honors and awards, Ms. Rowland was named 1994 Entrepreneur of the Year by Ernst & Young and Inc. Magazine. In 1992 she was recognized by the Indianapolis Business Journal with its Individual Enterprise Award, and Girls, Inc. awarded her the Touchstone Award in 1991. Ms. Rowland is also a Sagamore of the Wabash.

Ms. Rowland and her husband Richard have two grown sons.
