John T. Chambers (MBA '76)

John Chambers is president and chief executive officer of Cisco Systems Inc., the worldwide leader in networking, the business of connecting computers to networks, and connecting networks to networks around the globe. According to Fortune magazine, "[Cisco] rules the world of networking, and thus has one of the most secure franchises in the technology industry." With a current run-rate of $3.3 billion, and a market capitalization of approximately $27 billion, Cisco Systems is the third most valuable company on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange.
Mr. Chambers joined Cisco Systems in 1991 as senior vice president of Worldwide Operations and was later promoted in 1994 to executive vice president. He took over as president and CEO in January of 1995. Prior to joining Cisco Systems, Mr. Chambers spent eight years at Wang Laboratories, the last two as senior vice president of U.S. Operations.
Mr. Chambers received his MBA degree from Indiana Univesity in 1975, where he was president of his graduating class. He also holds undergraduate and JD degrees from West Virginia University. Strongly committed to IU, he is a sponsor of the Digital Communications MBA Focus Academy and he serves as a member of the Dean's Advisory Council. John and his wife, Elaine, live in Los Altos, California with their two children.
