The Importance of a Professional Network
Andrew Baldwin BS'07

“The best advice for any incoming student is to constantly challenge yourself scholastically with a diverse curriculum and to be a part of as many organizations as possible. And of course, have fun.”
Practically every finance major considers working for Goldman, Sachs & Co. the opportunity of a lifetime. Andrew Baldwin started working early in his Kelley career to secure and prepare for an interview. A member of Kelley’s Investment Banking and Capital Markets Workshop, Baldwin reached out to the vast alumni network to get tips on what the company looked for in potential candidates.
Not surprisingly, this paid off. Baldwin landed a summer internship with the company, followed by an offer of a full-time position as a financial analyst after graduation. Although Baldwin had set his sights on Goldman as a student, his main concern once he started working there was if the company would be a good fit for him, personally and professionally. “I love the group culture there,” he says. “I was never afraid to ask a question. It is an excellent fit.”
