Desktop Computer Policies
Technology Operations & Services supports desktop computers purchased with University funds only through supported manufacturers. Currently, Technology Operations & Services offers support for Desktop PCs purchased from Dell. While support is available for both Dimension and Optiplex lines, faculty and staff are encouraged to stay with the Optiplex line as support technicians are most familiar with these models. Additionally, no support is available for PCs which have a slower/older processor than an Intel Core 2 Duo 3.0 GHz. Faculty and staff who choose to purchase desktop computers from other vendors are encouraged to seek support from other resources, such as manufacturer authorized warranty service outlets, or directly from the vendor.
All Dell desktop computers come with a 3-year warranty from the manufacturer. The full range of support is available during this time. After the warranty period runs out, Technology Operations & Services reserves the right to refuse service when it is not economical. In the event that the machine in question is part of the Workstation Replacement Program, a suitable replacement will be made available.
