Kelley Green Awards to be given on Earth Day to three environmentally conscious firms
APRIL 21, 2005
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Students and faculty at Indiana University's Kelley School of Business tonight (April 21) will recognize three businesses for their environmentally friendly programs with the school's Kelley Green Awards.
This is the fourth year for these awards, which are being presented before this Saturday's annual Earth Day observances. Awards will be presented to Twisted Limb Paperworks of Bloomington, Wagner Homes of Valparaiso and Abitibi Consolidated of White Plains, N.Y.
The awards will be presented at 6:30 p.m. in Room 202 of the Kelley School of Business building on the Bloomington campus. The ceremony also will include a video tribute to Earth Day, musical performances by students and the announcement of Earth Art Expo winners.
The Kelley Green Awards are unique in that winners are chosen on the basis of nominations by IU students. Award winners were selected from the pool of nominations by the Environmental Policy Committee of the Kelley School. Students whose nominations were selected receive a $200 grant.
An Earth Art Expo also will be held from 1 to 6 p.m., on the second floor undergraduate wing of the School of Business Building, in the "Hall of Honor" area. The expo will consist of student art competitions in three categories: sculptures made of recycled materials, original environmental photographs and creative art. Winners of the art competitions will be announced along with the Kelley Green Awards and they will receive a certificate and a $100 award.
"The Kelley School hopes that recognizing these companies for their environmental business practices will set an example for students and other businesses in the state," said Robert E. Smith, environmental policy committee chair and a professor of marketing. "The program also hopes to get students and businesses thinking more about environmental issues in a creative and productive manner."
