Alternative Break Program

CLD student member participates in Alternative Break Program

The Civic Leadership Development (CLD) and Alternative Break Program (ABP) offer Kelley undergraduates numerous opportunities to transform lives and communities through volunteer service and civic engagement. CLD offers students opportunities to engage in service on the IU campus and in the local Bloomington community and  ABP offers service experiences in other parts of the U.S. and abroad. Together, CLD and ABP aim to become leading civic engagement programs for undergraduate business students in the country in order to effect lasting change in the culture of business.

Our Vision

CLD and ABP promote a broad set of values including corporate social responsibility, collaboration and teamwork to achieve common goals, leadership growth through volunteerism, cultural competency, ethical decision making, sustainability, and a deep desire for business to have a significant positive impact on communities around the globe.

Business Professionals Making a Difference

The CLD and ABP experiences—coupled with the Kelley curriculum—equip students with the experience and skills they need to lead and impact community service initiatives.  Further, by experiencing first-hand the transferable knowledge and skills between the nonprofit and for-profit sectors, students become more marketable to potential employers, learn to integrate service into their lives and remain civically engaged throughout their business careers.
