To Tech-Savvy Batesville Casket Company, IMA Represents Value
Director of Business Information Systems—Supply Chain, Batesville Casket Company
“In IMA, you have input in the process—members assist with the program agendas, so you can learn about topics that are of interest to your organization.”
Headquartered in Batesville, Indiana, Batesville Casket Company has been a leader in the funeral industry for more than 100 years—an identity that hardly screams “tech-savvy.” But IT is central to Batesville’s success, from its ERP to the automation in its four assembly facilities in the United States and Mexico.
Staying on top of IT trends, efficiency, and value are all important to Jerry Munchel, Batesville’s director of business information systems—supply chain. He gets all three with his IMA membership.
“The value is through the content, relevance, and timeliness of the programs,” Munchel says. “In IMA, you have input in the process—members assist with the program agendas, so you can learn about topics that are of interest to your organization.”
Because the half-day programs are held in Indianapolis, he says, “you can go, interact with your peers, participate in the program, and still get a half-day of work in.”
Through IMA, Batesville sponsors Master of Science in Information Systems capstone projects at the Kelley School of Business, giving graduate students real-world experience while getting their help on important projects. Batesville representatives are also frequent speakers in Kelley classes.
“It can be difficult for us to recruit,” Munchel says. “We have to really sell ourselves. The IM Affiliates has allowed us to do that.”
