Newspaper reading during lecture, late arrivals, inappropriate attire, coarse language, disrespectful attitude - these and all sorts of other uncivil behaviors seem to pervade the college classroom of today. Indeed, faculty complaints of classroom incivilities are on the rise and many instructors find themselves struggling to find effective ways of handling difficult classroom situations.
