The Kelley Advantage
For students in the 3/2 MBA Program
A week-long business simulation in which student teams compete against each other in an “industry,” the Capstone Competition is a perennial student favorite. The event requires students, playing the role of firm management, to integrate knowledge from all the core subjects: marketing, operations, strategy, and finance. Teams develop marketing, operations, financial, and information systems plans for their divisions. Financial statements produced by each division are audited by student audit teams.
Student teams, with the assistance of a faculty mentor, make decisions about product strategy, manufacturing, and capital investment while competing for corporate resources. At week's end, results for each division are presented to a corporate board consisting of the integrated core faculty.
Here are some student comments about the spring Capstone experience:
“The Capstone Simulation was one I truly will never forget. The opportunity to operate our own company in a situation such as this was amazing.”
“Capstone helped me understand how different aspects of business integrate together. Suddenly, all things discussed in class make sense.”
“Capstone is a completely unique experience for an MBA program. I learned more about business this week than I could have by sitting in lectures for a month.”
