On the CMA
It is amazing what a year can do. If you are considering going into consumer marketing, the CMA will be a highlight of your experience at Kelley. The CMA project was the best “practice” I could have asked for prior to my internship. The alumni and business professionals that were brought into speak to and engage with the CMA were amazing. Each one brought aspects of brand management to light in a different way and put real context to the challenges I would be facing in my career and how I might broach them.
Undergraduate: Grand Valley State University, Dance/Business Administration
Hometown: Holt, Mich.
Internship: Johnson & Johnson, New Brunswick, N.J.
Having been a dancer for 22 years, a choreographer for six, and graphic designer for three, I'm wired to think creatively! It's been great to learn how I can leverage this skill in business, particularly brand management.
I knew my biggest area of opportunity was to develop my analytical and strategic thinking capabilities, and the CMA afforded me the opportunity to do so during the Core and our CMA project this spring. It was awesome to work with teammates who were strong in these areas and learn from them through collaboration. The focused curriculum and coaching helped me relate concepts from the MBA Core directly to consumer marketing and brand management. The CMA also allowed me to develop the soft skills necessary to be a successful manager and team member. I am ready to hit the road running as I take on my internship with Johnson & Johnson this summer.
